What are pneumatophores?

When the roots of some plants growing in saline marshes (mangrove plants)suffer from the lack of oxygen due to the water logged condition.So their roots modify to become positively phototrophic and come out from water to increase the supply of oxygen to the plant .These modified roots that come vertically upward are called pneumatophores as observe in Rhizopora.
