stem cells as explained during the class are cells that give rise to other cells by cell division. If they are pleuripotent, they can give rise to all cell types. in this case they can also be called as totipotent. If they are multipotent, then they can give rise to many but not all cell types. If they are unipotent then they can give rise to only one cell type.
