What are three types of domain?

Open in App
Solution

Domains:

In the domain system of classification the entire system of organisms was classified into a total of three domains which are as follows:

Archaea:

  1. This domain constituted all the organisms that were only formed by a single cell.
  2. These organisms were mainly prokaryotic cells.
  3. These organisms were considered very primitive and lived in places with the very harsh environment.
  4. For example, halophiles living in extremely salty environments, and methanogens are bacteria that produce methane.

Bacteria

  1. Domain bacteria too included the single-celled prokaryotic organisms.
  2. But these bacteria were the most common bacterial species which we encounter on day to day basis.
  3. For example Streptococcus pneumonia, and Corynebacterium diphtheriae.

Eukarya

  1. This domain included all the eukaryotic organisms which had a true nucleus enclosed by a nuclear envelope.
  2. The domain eukaryote included four kingdoms which were kingdom Protista, kingdom Fungi, kingdom Plantae, and kingdom Animalia.
  3. All these kingdoms are now a part of the famous five kingdom classification proposed by RH Whittaker.
