Solution

Habitat loss:

  1. It is a process in which due to destruction the natural habitat of an organism becomes incapable of helping the organism to survive.
  2. Due to the destruction of their natural habitat these organisms get displaced or even die.
  3. The types of habitat loss are:
  • Habitat destruction:
  1. Habitat destruction is the process in which the conditions which are necessary for an animal or a plant to survive are totally eliminated or altered.
  2. This process along with impacting the species per se also impact the health of the entire global system.
  • Habitat fragmentation:
  1. In this process the habitat is not eliminated in its totality.
  2. But the natural habitat of the species is divided to form smaller patches or fragments.
  3. This leaves behind destroyed and smaller and connected areas of the natural habitat.
  • Habitat degradation:
  1. In this process the habitat is neither destroyed nor made into smaller patches but the habitat is made unsuitable for the species to live in it.
  2. Various factors such as pollution, human invasion and utilization of natural resources contribute to this.
