What are the three types of haemophilia?

Haemophilia:

It is a disorder of blood clot formation due to deficiency of the blood clotting factors. Even a minor cut or trauma can lead into heavy bleeding and death of the patients.

Haemophilia is of following types:

  • Haemophilia A:

It is the most common type of haemophilia and in this type there is the deficiency of the clotting factor VIII.

  • Haemophilia B:
  1. It is caused due to deficiency of factor IX or Christmas factor.
  2. It is also called Christmas disease not on the basis of the festival but Christmas was the first patient in whom haemophilia B was discovered.
  • Haemophilia C:
  1. It is due to deficiency of factor XI.
  2. It is also called plasma thromboplastin antecedent (PTA) deficiency.
