What are the major groups of protists?

Protists:

It consists of organisms that are single-celled and eukaryotic.

Four major groups:

  1. Chrysophytes: this includes golden algae that are also known as desmids and diatoms.
  2. Dinoflagellates: these are marine and photosynthetic organisms they can be of many colors including yellow green brown blue or red.
  3. Euglenoids: are freshwater organisms that are found in a stagnant body. They do not have a cell wall and have a pellicle which is made of protein
  4. Slime molds are saprophytic in nature in suitable conditions they form an aggregate that is called a plasmodium.
  5. Protozoans: are organisms that are either heterotrophic in nature or they are predators or parasites
