The adverse effects of destruction of forests are :
(i) Forests are the natural habitats for the animals and birds, once their habitat is destructed, their chances of extinction increase.
(ii) Trees help in groundwater absorption, the absence of which may often cause floods.
(iii) Destruction of forests results in low rainfall, causing a dry atmosphere, which in turn leads to an unfavourable climatic condition.
(iv) Destruction of trees causes the soil to become loose and get carried away by the wind. As a result , the top soil which is rich in humus and nutrients gets eroded causing desertification. Also the loosened soil in mountain regions causes landslides.
