What are the different components of soil?

Open in App
Solution

There are four important components of soil-

  1. Mineral matter - 50-60% - contains the inorganic salts and it is differentiated into Gravel, Sand, Silt, and Clay. The differentiation is based on particle size.
  2. Organic matter - 10% - contains decayed and decomposed organic matter.
  3. Soil water - 25-35% - is present in the form of film surrounding the soil particles and functions by dissolving the nutrient and minerals dissolved in the soil.
  4. Soil air - 15-25% - is trapped between the soil particles filling the empty space.
