Solution

Cropping pattern

  1. The proportion of land under cultivation of different crops at different times is referred to as a cropping pattern.
  2. This graphic depicts when and where crops are planted in certain regions.
  3. Any alteration to the cropping pattern would shift the proportion of land planted for certain crops.

Rainfall, temperature, climate, technology, and soil type influence cropping patterns in India.

Types of Cropping pattern

Mixed Cropping:

  1. When two or more crops are grown on the same plot of land simultaneously, it is known as mixed cropping.
  2. When wheat and gram are cultivated on the same plot of land simultaneously, this is known as mixed cropping.
  3. This strategy decreases the risk of one of the crops failing and safeguards against crop failure due to extreme weather.

Intercropping:

  1. Intercropping is simultaneously planting many crops in a specific row arrangement on the same piece of land.
  2. Can plant three rows of intercrops following one row of the main crop.
  3. Intercropping raises output per square foot.

Crop Rotation:

  2. Depending on their duration, the crops are categorised as one-year rotation, two-year rotation, or three-year rotation.
