What are the different phases of phagocytosis in Amoeba to capture food?

Open in App
Solution

Amoeba:

  1. It belongs to the kingdom Protista.
  2. It is found in freshwater.
  3. Binary fission and sporulation are the two means of asexual reproduction shown by Amoeba.
  4. It has pseudopodia for movement as well as for phagocytosis.

Phases of phagocytosis in Amoeba:

  1. The macromolecules of food first attach to the receptor on the Amoeba.
  2. In the next step, the pseudopodia extend around the food particle to engulf it
  3. The membranes of the Amoeba and the food particle merge to form a phagosome.
  4. Next, the lysosome comes and fuses with the phagosome forming a phagolysosome.
  5. The lysosome releases hydrolytic enzymes that digest the food materials.
