Connective tissue

  1. It is the most widely distributed animal tissue.
  2. It possesses scattered living cells embedded in the matrix.
  3. These cells help to connect, bind, pack and support different structures of the animal body.
  4. The connective tissues are specialized to connect the various parts of the body.
  5. The connective tissues connect bones to bones, bones to muscles, and bind tissues.

Based on the nature of the matrix, the connective tissues are classified into three types, namely,

Connective tissue proper:

  1. It consists of the loose and dense type of connective tissue.
  2. Loose connective tissue has areolar and adipose tissue.
  3. Dense connective tissue has tendons and ligaments.

Skeletal tissue:

  1. It consists of bones and cartilages.

Vascular tissue:

  1. It consists of blood and lymph.
