Open in App
Solution

Enzymes:

  1. Enzymes are biological catalysts and almost always contain proteins.
  2. It quickens a certain chemical process in the cell.

Different types of enzymes are:

Oxidoreductases:

  1. They are enzymes that facilitate the movement of electrons between different molecules.
  2. Ex: Aromatase and Catalase

Transferases:

  1. Transfusions are enzymes that catalyze the transfer of a functional group from one molecule to another.
  2. Ex: Peptidyl transferase

Hydrolases:

  1. It is a class of hydrolytic enzymes commonly used as a biochemical catalyst that uses water as a hydroxyl group donor during substrate breakdown.
  2. Phosphatases, Glycosidases, and Peptidases

Lyases:

  1. They are enzymes responsible for catalytic addition and elimination reactions.
  2. Ex: Citrate lyase and Isocitrate lyase

Isomerases:

  1. Isomerase is a common class of enzymes that convert one molecule from one isomer to another.
  2. Ex: Triose phosphate isomerase and Bisphosphoglycerate mutase

Ligases:

  1. Enzymes that catalyze the formation of carbon-oxygen bonds between amino acids and transfer RNA are called amino acid-RNA ligases.
  2. Ex: Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase and Citrate lyase
