There are three types of mountains:
Fold mountains, Block mountains and Volcanic mountains.
(i) Fold Mountains: Fold mountians are formed due to the collision of two textonic plates. The Himalayan Mountains and the Alps are examples of young fold mountains.
(ii) Block Mountains: They are created when large areas are broken and displaced vertically. Rhine valley and the Vosges mountains are examples of block mountains.
(iii) Volcanic Mountains: They are formed due to volcanic activity. Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mt Fujiyama in Japan are examples of such mountains.
