Modern periodic table:

  • The modern periodic table is an arrangement of all the elements known in accordance with their increasing atomic number and recurring chemical properties.
  • It is a tabular display of 118 chemical elements which consists of horizontal rows called periods and vertical columns called groups.
  • All elements in a group have the same number of valance electrons, and in period elements have the same number of electron shells.

Group 1A :

  • This group is of alkali metals.
  • The alkali metals are so called because of their reaction with water to form water-soluble bases called alkalies.
  • They occupy the first column of the periodic table.
  • They are highly electropositive and reactive metals as their valance shell has one electron.
  • Alkali elements are Lithium(Li), Sodium(Na), Potassium (K), Rubidium (Rb), Cesium (Cs), and Francium (Fr).
