Spinal cord is a long tubular structure made up of nervous tissue. Along with the brain it forms the Central Nervous System of the human body. Its major functions are:

Conduct of motor and sensory impulses to and fro from the brain to the rest of the organs of the body.

Initiate reflex actions in case of emergencies.
