Solution

Smog: When fog mixes with smoke, it gives rise to a dense condensed form of polluted air that reduces visibility by multiple folds. This is called smog.

The harmful effects of smog are as follows:

  1. It adversely affects the respiratory system once inhaled through the nasopharyngeal pathway.
  2. It lodges in the alveoli of the lungs, tracheae, and bronchioles causing asthma, wheezing cough, and bronchitis.
  3. It reduces visibility and causes irritation to the eyes.
