What are the limitations of energy that can be harnessed from the sea?

Open in App
Solution

The limitations of the energy that can be harnessed from the sea are as follows.

1. Very strong waves are required to obtain electricity from wave energy. Such strong waves are not available in the sea all the time.
2. Tidal energy depends on the relative positions of the earth, the moon and the sun.
3. To harness ocean thermal energy efficiently, the difference between the temperatures of the surface water (hot) and the water at a depth (cold) must be 20ºC or more.
4. Very few sites are suitable for building tidal dams.
