Konark Sun Temple is a magnificent 13th-century temple ,dedicated to the sun God or Surya and is located in the eastern State of Odisha near the sacred city of Puri. Konark Sun Temple is special because it a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous for its unique architecture. The temple is a striking model of ancient artistry and a pedagogic treasury. The special feature of temple are that it is dedicated to Surya and the first sun rays fall on the entrance of the temple.The temple has Kalinga architecture which has a depiction of a 100ft chariot being pulled by horses and wheels carved out of a single stone. The monument portrays the imposing chariot of the Surya. The temple is built on Khondalite rocks and has 128 ft high audience hall, dance hall, dining hall . What is special about the temple are its intricate designs as there are 24 intricately designed wheels, 12 ft in diameter which are seen drawn by horses. These seven horses represent the week, the wheels stand for the 12 months while the day-cycle is symbolised by the eight spokes in the wheels. This entire design depicts how the time is controlled by the sun.
