Cell theory:

Cell theory states 3 main points-

1. All the living beings are made up of cells.
2. Cells are the structural and functional units of the body.
3. New cells arise from the preexisting cells.

Three scientists whose work led to the formulation of cell theory are-

1. Schleiden
   • M.J Schleiden was a German botanist who observed various parts of the plant.
   • In 1838, he stated that all the parts of the plant are made up of cells.
2. Schwann
   • Schwann was a German zoologist.
   • In 1839, he observed different parts of the animals and stated that these are made up of cells.
3. R.C. Virchow
   • Virchow was a German doctor and botanist.
   • In 1855, he studied that all the cells arise from the pre- existing cell i.e. the cells divide and form new cells.
