Dear student, Reasons were as follows - 1) India faced many famines, but worst was in Bengal. 2) The first famine happened in 1770 and many famines happened till 1943- 1944 in Bengal. 3) High taxes were imposed on the peasants in the phase of adversities and they were not able to pay taxes and revenues because of crop failure, then their lands were forfeited. 4) The peasants were coerced to grow cash crops such as indigo which Britishers purchased at less cost.
