  2. Tracheids are the principal water-conducting components of the xylem of gymnosperms.
  3. Long cells with sharpened ends are known as tracheids.
  4. These have died due to the accumulation of lignin.
  5. They have thickening that is annular, scalariform, reticulate or bordered pitted.
  6. These are the only water-conducting xylem components in both gymnosperms and angiosperms.
