  1. The organic compounds formed majorly by Carbon and Hydrogen are called Hydrocarbons. For example - Methane(CH4), Butane(C4H10), Hexane(C6H14), Ethane(C2H6), etc.
  2. The main sources of Hydrocarbons are given below.
  3. Natural sources - Hydrocarbons are extracted from Fossil fuels like natural gas, petroleum, and coal. Examples of hydrocarbons are Ethene(C2H4), Isoprene(C5H8), Methane(CH4), etc.
  4. Industrial sources - Hydrocarbons are obtained industrially as a byproduct of fractionation of crude oil and coal gas to form petrochemicals and solvents. For example - Benzene(C6H6), Toluene(C6H5CH3), etc.
