What are the materials required for the experiment to show the chemical decomposition of water? Write the procedure of the experiment. Name the products which we get in this reaction.

  • Water can be decomposed using electrolysis.
  • Materials required are Pencils, electrolytic cells, batteries, distilled water and cardboard.
  • Procedure: 1. Fill the beaker or glass with warm water.
2. Put 2 sharp pencils as electrodes.
3. Connect each pencil to the battery.
4. Wrap the wire around the graphite of each pencil and connect the wires to the battery.
  • Products formed are Hydrogen gas and oxygen gas.
