What are the objectives of Consumer Protection Act, 1956?

The broad objective is to protect consumers interest. The detailed objectives are :

(i) Establishment of Consumer Protection Councils at central, state and district levels for the purpose of increasing consumer awareness.

(ii) Establishment of Consumer Dispute Redressal Agencies (CDRAs) to provide speedy, inexpensive and simple redressal to consumer grievances. CDRAs quasi-judicial machinery at central, state and district levels.

(iii) Protection of consumer rights which all consumers are entitled to – Right to safety, right to be informed, right to choose, right to be heard, right to seek redressal, right to consumer education.
