Solution
Electroplating is the process of depositing a layer of a desired metal on another material by means of electricity. The process should have the following requirements that need to be followed:
The object to be electroplated should be free from greasy matter. Without a properly cleaned surface, even the most expensive metal coatings will fail to adhere or protect an object from the outside environment. (1 mark)
The surface of the article should be rough so that the metal deposited sticks permanently. (1 mark)
The concentration of the electrolyte should be adjusted so as to get a smooth coating. The concentration and the kind of electrolyte affect the electroplating process because these affect the potential difference which you will learn in your higher grade. (1 mark)
Current must be the same throughout. Low current for a longer time causes a smooth, uniform and long-lasting deposition of material. High current causes irregular deposition of the metal. (1 mark)
