Natural detergents

Man-made detergents

  • Natural detergents are the ones that are available naturally.
  • Man-made detergents are manufactured by human beings by the means of chemical methods in laboratories.
  • It is less efficient than Man-made detergents.
  • They are chemically modified natural detergents or entirely man-made detergents which are highly efficient.
  • Natural detergents are Eco-friendly in nature.
  • Man-made detergents are harmful to the environment and humans.
  • Examples: soap nut (ritha) and soap pod (shikakai)
  • Example: sodium lauryl sulfate, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, etc

The points of similarities between Natural and Man-made detergents are:

  • They both can be used as a surfactant i.e. to remove oil and grease.
  • They both can be used to take off the dirt from the clothes.
  • Both are polymeric in nature.
