Solution
Spermatogenesis:
The process by which male gametes (sperm) are developed in the reproductive organ of males (testes) is called spermatogenesis.
If the spermatozoa are in the oviduct just before the ovum arrives at the site of fertilization, there is a process of fertilization.
In order for fertilization to occur, three main events must take place when the spermatozoa encounter the oocyte.
The three events are:
Cumulus penetration – Between the cumulus cells and the radiata cells, the sperm cells should move. It involves forward swimming and the dispersion of enzymes
Zona pellucida penetration – The sperm cells should attach to and seep into the zona pellucida.
Membrane fusion – The plasma membrane of the ovum and sperms should unite which is an equatorial attachment.
