The Panchayati Raj system is a system of local governance at three levels. These are as follows:

1. Gram Panchayat - Local governance at the village level is known as Gram Panchayat. All adult villagers are a part of it.

2. Panchayat Samiti - Local governance at the block level is known as Panchayat Samiti. It is also known as the Janpad Panchayat.

3. Zila Parishad - Local governance at the district level is known as Zila Parishad and is thus also known as the District Panchayat.
