Question

What are the three main steps involved in the construction of a transgene?

Open in App
Solution

Transgenesis is the process of the introduction of the desired gene (Transgene) from one organism into the genome of another. There are two types of transgenic organisms:
  1. Transgenic animals
  2. Transgenic plants
To make a transgene three steps are involved:
  • Promoters - They are located in a gene at an upstream position and helps in the initiation of transcription of any gene.
  • Gene to be expressed - It is the desired gene which we want to express in the organism of our choice. It is the coding region which is to be expressed.
  • Termination sequence - It is the sequence or codons which codes for stopping of transcription or translation. It helps in capping and tailing of mRNA, thus maintains mRNA stability.
