Solution

Uterus:

  1. It is a hollow muscular organ situated in the female pelvis, that is, between the rectum and the bladder.
  2. It comprises three layers, that is, endometrium, which is the inner lining, the myometrium, that is, the thick middle muscle layer, and serosa, that is, the smooth outer layer.

Endometrium:

  1. The uterus is enveloped by the endometrium, that is, a thick mucosa, which is encircled by a thick wall of the myometrium, that is, a smooth muscle.
  2. It inhibits adhesions between the myometrium's opposed walls, thus, sustaining the patency of the uterine cavity.

The endometrium comprises two layers:

  1. Stratum basalis of the basal layer, and stratum functionalis or the functional layer.
  2. Adjacent to the myometrium, the stratum basalis is present. It does not get shed during menstruation, and further forms stratum functionalis.
  3. Adjacent to the uterine cavity, the stratum functionalis is present. It gets shed during menstruation.
