The cell membrane proteins are of two types: Peripheral proteins and Integral proteins

Peripheral proteins- These proteins are loosely bound to the cell membrane and can be released through gentle extraction procedures. Their removal does not affect the cell membrane structure.

Integral proteins- These proteins are held tightly in the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane and can be released with the disruption of the cell membrane.
