What are the types of joints in the body?

Joint:

  1. It is an associate, which takes place between the bones in the skeletal system.
  2. It provides movement and is also called an articular surface.

Type of joints:

i) Fibrous joints:

  1. Also known as immovable joints, and are found where the bones are not flexible.
  2. The bones are fused in such joints.
  3. A common example is a skull, which is formed of several fused bones.

ii) Cartilaginous joints:

  1. These joints are partly movable, comprising synchondrosis or symphysis joints.
  2. These joints take place only in the places where the association between the articulating bones is formed of cartilage.
  3. Examples are joints in the rib cage and spinal column.

iii) Synovial joints:

  1. These are the most common kind of joints found in the body.
  2. This kind of joint assists one to do various kinds of activities like running, walking, typing, etc.
  3. The examples are neck joint, wrist joint, knee joint, etc.
