The bond in which no sharing of electron pairs takes place is called a non-covalent bond.
It occurs mostly between the macromolecules and is weaker than the covalent bond.
Types:
Hydrogen bond: It is an intermolecular force that forms a dipole-dipole attraction when a Hydrogen atom bonded to an electronegative atom is present in the vicinity of an electronegative atom with a lone pair of electrons. For example, The V-bent shape of the water molecule means that slightly negative oxygens are attracted to neighboring positive hydrogen atoms.
Ionic bond: It is the strongest noncovalent bond between two ionic groups of opposite charge molecules. There are two types of ionic bonds one is dipole-dipole interaction (interaction of positive and negative poles)and another is ion-dipole interaction(interaction of charged ion and polar molecule). For example, Salt is composed of a Sodium cation () and Chloride anion ()by the ionic bond.
Vander Waals bond: This is the weak interaction of nonpolar molecules by the shifting of electron density.
