One of the most important applications of ammonia is its use in the agriculture industry as a fertiliser. Ammonia, in its anhydrous form (or sometimes in aqueous solutions), is often mixed with agricultural soils in order to increase the nitrogen content in the soil and, therefore, the fertility of the soil. This is often accompanied by higher crop yields and better crop quality. Ammonia is also used in the synthesis of many important compounds such as washing soda, dyes and explosives.
