Application of sodium bicarbonate are:
(a) For making baking powder - Baking powder is a mixture of starch, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate ) and a mild edible acid (e.g. tartaric acid).

Baking powder is used in baking of cakes, breads etc.
The CO2 produced during the reaction helps in making the cake or bread spongy.
(b) Sodium carbonate is alkaline and is thus as an ingredient in preparing antacids. It neutralizes the excess acidity in stomach.
(c) It is used in the fire extinguisher.
