Smelting of iron is carried out in a blast furnace. The blast furnace can be divided into different zones depending on their temperature as -
1. Zone of oxide-reduction (about ${200}^{0}C$)
2. Zone of slag formation (${700}^0-{900}^{0}C$)
3. Zone of fusion (${1200}^0-{1400}^{0}C$)
4. Zone of combustion (about ${1900}^{0}C$) [1 Mark]
