Varicose veins:

  1. Varicose veins can be defined as dilated, elongated, tortuous and, palpable superficial veins as a result of venous hypertension.
  2. It usually occurs due to the permanent loss of valvular mechanism and resultant venous hypertension.
  3. Varicose veins are caused due to the increased blood pressure in the veins.
  4. Veins that are superficial near the surface of the skin can become varicose.
  5. The blood moves towards the heart with the help of one-way valves in the veins.
  6. When these valves become either weakened or damaged then this blood gets collected in the veins.
  7. Symptoms of varicose veins are aching, tiredness, heaviness pain-throbbing, the sensation of swelling, burning, itching, restless legs, and blackish discolouration.
  8. Treatment includes compression stockings, exercise, or procedures to close or remove the veins i.e. laser treatment.
