ABO blood grouping was given by Karl Landsteiner in the year 1900.
The ABO grouping system is also classified into four types based on the presence or absence of antigens on the red blood cells(RBC) surface and plasma antibodies.
Blood types are defined on the basis of the presence or absence of Rh (Rhesus) antigen on the blood.
If Rh antigen is present on the blood, blood is positive and if Rh antigen is absent on the blood, blood is negative.
There are eight blood groups such as: A+, A-, B+, B-, O+, O-, AB+ and AB-.
O+ blood group is said to be the most common blood group.
