Functioning of the pancreas:

  1. The pancreas is controlled by both the automatic nervous system and the endocrine system.
  2. The automatic nervous system has two divisions that are sympathetic and parasympathetic.
  3. The nerves of the sympathetic division become active during stressful situations, emergencies, and exercise.
  4. The endocrine system controls and coordinates the body's response to changes in the environment using hormones.
  5. Insulin is released when the sugar level in the body is high.
  6. Glucagon is released when the sugar level is low.
