  1. These are the minute openings that are present inside the secondary cell wall of xylem tissues.
  2. They act as the channels for the transport of water and minerals between the adjacent cells.
  3. Depending on the concentration of lignin, they are of varying thickness.
  4. Most of the pits are complementary in nature i.e. present opposite to each other in the neighboring cells.

Perforations: These on the other hand are penetrations in the plant tissue that have equal thicknesses.

No, pits can not be said similar to the perforations in the common walls.
