(i) The UN Security Council is an organ of the UN and is responsible for maintaining peace in the world.
(ii) When a country attacks another country in an unjust manner it can put together an international army and take action against the wrong-doer. The fifteen member Security Council of the UN takes crucial decisions like what action should be taken in a conflict between different countries.
(iii) The Council has five permanent members - US, Russia, UK, France and China. Ten other members are elected by the General Assembly for a two-year term. The real power is with five permanent members.
