DNA is the abbreviation for Deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA is a double helical structure having nucleotide. These nucleotide are made of deoxyribose sugar, phosphoric acid and nitrogenous base such as adenine thymine, cytosine and guanine. The DNA is present in the form of structures called as chromosomes. Chromosomes are present in the nucleus of every cell. DNA is passed on to the offspring's through gametes from the parental generation. James D. Waston and Francis Crick proposed the double helical model of the structure of DNA molecule. This model was proposed in the year 1953. They were awarded the Nobel prize for this discovery.
