Strength of a solution:

  • “The strength of a solution is defined as the mass of solute (in grams) dissolved in one liter of solution.”

Formula:

  • It can be expressed as:

Strength=MassofsoluteingramsVolumeofsolutioninlitre

  • The units of strength are gL-1 or gdm-3.

Example:

When 5g of solute is dissolved in 200mlor0.2L of solution, then the strength of the solution will be:

Strength=5g0.2L=25gL-1.

Thus, the strength of the solution is 25gL-1.
