  1. The earth attracts all the bodies towards itself.
  2. The weight of a body on the earth is equal to the force with which the body is attracted towards the earth.
  3. It depends on the mass of the body and acceleration due to gravity.
  4. The acceleration due to gravity changes from place to place.
  5. Therefore,weight of a body changes from place to place.
  6. Weight is measured with a spring balance.

Unit of weight .

  1. Weight (W )= mg.
  2. The SI unit of weight is Newton (N).
  3. Its sub unit is dyne.
  4. 1N = 105 dynes .
  5. The weight is also measured in kilogram-force (Kgf) and gram force (gf).
  6. 1 kilogram-force is the weight of an object of mass 1 kg.
  7. 1 kgf =9.8 N
  8. 1 gf = 980 dynes..
