Solution
When Bengal grams seeds are soaked in water the seed coat first absorbs water. It swells and becomes tender. This is followed by germination after some days in which radicle sprouts from the seed.
Spoilt seeds are eaten by insects or rodents. This creates holes in them hence they become light in weight and float.
