When calcium carbonate reacts with hydrochloric acid, it forms calcium chloride, carbon dioxide and water.

The chemical reaction is as below:
CaCO3 + 2HCl ------------------> CaCl2 + CO2 +H2O.

Observation will be brisk effervescence due to evolution of carbon dioxide.
