Division Gymnospermae:

  1. In naked-seeded plants, the seeds lie exposed and are not covered or protected by the ovary or fruit.
  2. This is a characteristic feature of Division Gymnospermae.
  3. Hence, Gymnosperms are known as naked-seeded plants.
  4. These plants are evergreen, perennial, or shrubs.
  5. Most gymnosperms stems possess resin canals.
  6. They have vascular tissue which consists of xylem and phloem.
  7. They show secondary growth due to presence of cambium.
  8. They are heterosporous, which means that they produce different types of spores- megaspores and microspores.
  9. They produce naked seeds, which means that the seeds lie exposed on the surface of the megasporophylls.
  10. Example - Cycas, Pinus.
