Open in App
Solution

Reflex: It is the sudden response to an unprecedented, unpredicted stimuli that is mediated at the level of the spinal cord.

Reflex pathway: It outlines the shortest course taken by the nerve impulse and the response generated by the effector organ when an unpredicted, sudden stimulus is presented to a receptive (sensory) organ.

  1. The receptor organ contains the sensory receptor neurons that function to recieve the stimulus.
  2. The sensory neuron transports nerve impulses to the spinal cord.
  3. An interneuron connects the sensory (input) neuron to the motor (output) neuron.
  4. The response nerve is carried from the CNS to the effector organ by a motor neuron.
  5. The effector organ responds by contracting or secreting a substance.
