  2. Autotrophs are referred to as producers because they offer energy and food to all heterotrophic organisms.
  3. There are two types of autotrophs: Photoautotrophs and Chemoautotrophs

Photoautotrophs:

  1. These autotrophs obtain their energy from the sun and transform it into useful energy.
  2. Example: Higher plants, Algae, Bacteria

Chemoautotrophs:

  1. These autotrophs derive their energy from chemicals, primarily inorganic compounds like hydrogen sulphide and ammonia.
  2. Example: Sulphur bacteria, Nitrobacter.
