Dehydrogenase:
It is an enzyme within the class of oxidoreductase that oxidizes the substrate by reducing an electron acceptor, usually NAD+/NADP+, or a flavin coenzyme like FAD or FMN. They catalyze both forward and reverse reactions.
They transfer two hydrogens from organic compounds to an electron carrier like NAD+ and thus oxidize organic compounds.
As an example, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, succinate dehydrogenase, αketoglutarate dehydrogenase, pyruvate dehydrogenase, etc. are involved in many steps of the metabolic process, namely glycolysis, various biological processes, and also the electron transport system.
